Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This image, acquired on 2 February 2022 by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites, shows the Po River near Cremona in northern Italy. The Po River and the entire Po Valley are going through severe drought conditions. According to the ANBI Observatory, the flow of the Po River in Piacenza recorded its lowest value in the last 16 years, whereas in Cremona, the water level recorded was at -6.85 meters compared to the average value for this time of the year. Reservoirs are also suffering, as water resources stored in lakes and snow in the Alps and Apennines are 42.7% lower than the 2006-2020 average. The Copernicus product portfolio includes two Drought Observatories, managed by the Copernicus Emergency Management Service, which provide drought indicators and early warning for droughts in Europe (EDO) and worldwide (GDO).
