Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Illustration by Poul Steffensen from the Danish novel Dronningens Vagtmester by Carit Etlar which takes place during the Dano-Swedish War in 1658-1660. The Swedes besieges Copenhagen and builds trenches still closer to the city. One night Ib Abelsøn together with a group of gønger and Dutch sailors then has to make a sortie to disturb them. In the drawing Copenhagen is shown as seen from west with the ramparts in the foreground. At the far left is Rundetårn (the Round Tower) with Trinitatis Kirke, in the middle the German Sankt Petri Kirke and the dome Vor Frue Kirke and at the right the Copenhagen Castle with Blåtårn. Sankt Petri Kirke and Vor Frue Kirke both burned during the city fire in 1728 but was rebuild afterwards. The Copenhagen Castle was teared down in 1731 in order to be replaced by the first Copenhagen Castle.
