Description Driving across the old Bates Bridge, a Warren through truss bridge with bascule draw span in Groveland, Massachusetts, that was built in 1913–14. This view is approximately in the center of the bridge, showing the single-leaf bascule span. From this perspective, the draw span, when opening for river traffic, would pivot up and towards the camera, using the large gears that are visible here. This bridge was replaced in 2014 by a new bridge, aligned about 60 feet north of the old bridge.
