Title

Description
English:

Ten-story office building with parking lot in front.

The Drexel Building was a ten-story office building that towered over Independence Square at the southeast corner of Fifth and Chestnut Streets. In a twist of irony, it was the construction of this building in the 1880s that resulted in the demolition of the original 1789 Library Hall building on Fifth Street. After the Drexel Building was demolished in 1956, the American Philosophical Society rebuilt Library Hall. Today, the site of the Drexel Building is marked by the Signers' Garden.
