Ладанница серебряная

Принадлежностью к кадилу была изображенная здесь ладанница (arcula thuraria), которую носил диакон и архидиакон на малом и великом выходе, как видно на старинных образах. Св. архидиаконы Стефан, Лаврентий и Евпл иногда изображаются на алтарных дверях церкви с ладанницей в левой руке и с кадилом в правой, как знамениями своего служения.

Представленная здесь на эстампе серебряная ладанница имеет подобие шатрового храма, утвержденного на подножии; внешние ее стенки украшены изображениями разных святых с их утварями. Узорочность орнаментов и отделка обнаруживают замысловатость и ловкость художника, а стиль вообще сего памятника свидетельствует о древности его. Сходная с нею ладанница XVII в. в Новоспасском монастыре содержит в себе два помещения: одно для ладана, другое для тимьяна, или фимиама, который в чине освящения церквей также называется воскомастикою от соединения воска с мастикой и ладаном.
