Title
dress hook tag
Description
English: A complete silver hooked tag, or dress hook, with gilding. The object is in excellent condition. Trefoil-shaped in plan, with an external knop in each angle. Each knop has a raised hemispherical boss, and an additional hemispherical boss in the centre. The trefoil outline is made up of three circles each outlined with a braided border. A slightly raised gilt boss sits within each circle. A recurving backplate and a bar attachment are soldered onto the flat reverse.

There is no makers mark. Similar silver gilded hooked tags have previously been reported as Treasure. For example, 2006 T128. D Thornton reports: This style of dress fastening was common during the 16th century in Tudor England and was used to secure items of dress, likely restricted to female costume.

This object has been reported as treasure according to the Treasure Act 1996.
