Description
English: Dress which belonged to Mrs Bailey, formerly Mrs. Mears. Mrs Bailey's first marriage to Mr. Mears took place in 1847. cotton, cream background patterned with sprays of brown flowers with green leaves; brown fringed braid trim Printed cotton dress brown and green leaf print on check ground. Fine light cotton. Bodice V fronted ruched trim on fitted, boned and lined bodice. Wide neck line – back fastening - long sleeves cut on cross with ruched bands and flounce above elbow. Skirt very full cartridge gathers (pleats) at waist with lower gathered tier at low hip-line. Very full skirt at hem line. Skirt fully lined in glazed calico. All seams piped – brown fringe on bodice and sleeves.
