Summary
[edit]DescriptionDresden Hauptbahnhof 003.jpg |
English: The main station of Dresden got a new roof between 2001 and 2006. It was designed by Sir Norman Foster. The roof is built as a tent with a 0.7 mm thick glass fiber membrane, coated with Teflon. It cost 90.06 million €. Snow and rain are collected in funnels of the same membrane. The downspouts were too small and in winter 2010 and 2011 snow and water were kept in the funnels, turned to ice and cracked nine of them. Travellers could have been hit by large lumps of ice. For protecting them, safety-nets were laid around the funnels and their tubes were enhanced by heavy plastic sheets. The builder of the roof became insolvent. The bank, which provided security for guarantee claims, demanded an evidence securing procedure which began in 2011 and ended in 2017. Deutsche Bahn and the bank settled their dispute, when the damage was confirmed by the experts.
