Description
Deutsch: Dresden: archäologische Ausgrabungen im Quartier VI am Neumarkt. Bei den Grabungen wurden die Keller- und Grundmauern der im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstörten Gebäude freigelegt. Die festgestellten Erdbefunde reichen hier bis ins Mittelalter zurück. Die freigelegten Kellermauern gehören u.a. zum ehemaligen Regimentshaus, dass Anfang des 18. Jahrhunderts als Amtssitz des Stadtgouverneurs Reichsgraf von Wackerbarth eines der wichtigsten Gebäude am alten Neumarkt. Nach Umzug des Gouvernements in das Kurländer Palais 1719 beherbergte der Bau die königlich-kurfürstlichen Kunstsammlungen sowie eine Bibliothek. Auch benachbarte Bauten und Innenhöfe sind von Forschungsinteresse. Im Hintergrund der Ausgrabungen ist das Johanneum zu sehen.
English: Dresden: archaeological excavation in the Quarter VI at the Neumarkt with the Johanneum in the background. The historic area of the Neumarkt was almost completely wiped out during the Allied bomb attack during the Second World War. Huge areas and parcels of the place remained untilled. The completion of the reconstructed Dresden Frauenkirche in 2005 marked the first step in rebuilding the Neumarkt.
