There is a rapidly growing taste for the culture of fancy fish and aquatic plants in Aquariums, and U is doubtful if anything ismore fascinating to the young, as well as to the older members of the household, than to watch the development of animal and plantlife in the aquaria. It is necessary to secure and maintain the proper balance between plant and animal life, as fish will not thriveunless enough plants are growing to furnish them with oxygen. To do this there should be not less than one plant to every twogallons of water. The ideal temperature is about 50 degrees, and a shady corner, or a window facing north, is best during th^summer, and an east window during the winter. If the proper balance is maintained, it will not be necessary to change the watermore than three or four times a year. The list of plants offered below are the best known oxygenators.
