Bober believes this opening to be one of the most recent entries in the sketch-book, possibly for its extremely sketchy rendering and the fact that the bottom part of the sheets has been left empty. She observes that the image on the right-hand page corresponds to that of f. 50 of Aspertini's earlier Wolfegg Codex and that the missing f. 49v of that sketch-book presumably represented the left half of the battle (which here is represented on left-hand page). She also believes that both this and the Wolfegg drawing are inspired by the battle of the sixth winding of Trajan's column (K. Lehmann-Hartleben, 'Die Trajanssäule', Berlin and Leipzig, 1926, XLI, 109-11 and Settis et al., 'La colonna Traiana' Turin, 1988, no. 63), but Agosti and Farinella (1984, p. 406, n.11) don't accept this connection, for neither the present sheet nor for the one in the Codex Wolfegg.
