Drain on Hampton Meadow

English: Drain on Hampton Meadow Hampton Meadow, a designated SSSI is a large area of old, traditionally managed hay meadow and is one of a very few surviving examples of a Lammas meadow. The reserve sits in a triangular section of Lugg Valley flood plain in a low-lying area which floods annually. Silt is deposited across the plain, developing into a fertile, alluvial soil which readily drains each summer because of deep beds of underlying river gravels. |
