Description Dr. Ichiji Tasaki worked at NIH from 1953 until his death in 2009, first in National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Blindness, then in National Institute of Mental Health and finally in National Institute of Child Health Disorders. Tasaki discoveries demonstrated the insulating function of myelin and explained the speed with which nerve impulses can travel along myelinated nerves. Nobuko Tasaki was Ichiji’s lab assistant until her death in 2003. She innovated a new method for inserting potassium chloride into the tip of an intracellular electrode.
