Description

Dr. Damien Hasola works in Orthopaedics at Buka Hospital these are his comments about having Sister Alicia Green, the Australian Volunteer nurse who has been working at Buka Hospital. “Yep so obviously (her) being here, has been a really great help for us, especially the basic things that we take for granted we were not doing well. Where when she came she actually put us back in line to do these basic things properly, especially domestic care, like operating theatre. So now she has trained the message now and slowly their improving the techniques, simple basic things they’re doing right before they can do bigger things.”

“One of the things that really, that she changed in the theatre is the (count sheets). Before she came we were doing counts like instruments that we use differently but the new technique that she has now implemented and taught the nurses is to make sure to count three or four times to make sure no instruments are left, or gauze something like that.”
