Description
English: DC3 in the National Air and Space Museum, Washington DC.

The Douglas DC-3 is an American fixed-wing, propeller-driven aircraft whose speed and range revolutionized air transport in the 1930s and 1940s. Because of its lasting impact on the airline industry and World War II, it is generally regarded as one of the most significant transport aircraft ever made.

The airplane on display, an Eastern Air Lines Douglas DC-3-201 (N18124 (cn 2000) manufactured 1936) flew more than 56,700 hours. Its last commercial flight was on October 12, 1952, when it flew from San Salvador to Miami. It was subsequently presented to the Museum by Eastern's president, Edward V. Rickenbacker.
