Summary

[edit]
Description

c/n 19503 Built in early 1944 for the USAAF with the serial 43-15037. Served with the Eighth Air Force as part of the 302nd Troop Carrier Squadron, part of the 441st Troop Carrier Group. Took part in D-Day, delivering paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division to a drop-zone near Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandy. The following day, on mission ‘Hackensack’, it towed a glider to the same area, this time for the 82nd Airborne Division. Sold off in June 1946, it became EI-ACK with Aer Lingus and was also leased to Silver City Airways before travelling to Israel in 1960 as 4X-AOC with Israel Aircraft Industries. It was registered as CS-DGA in October 1978 and came to Portugal for the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC). Eventually retired and stored at Lisbon, it was later painted in TAP colours as CS-TDA for the TAP museum. It is now jointly painted as CS-TDE, a TAP aircraft, on her port side but with her genuine identity CS-DGA and DGAC colours on her starboard side. Museo do Ar, Sintra, Portugal.
