Description
English: A U.S. Navy Douglas AD-5W Sykraider (BuNo 135165) of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 11 (VAW-11), Det.N "Early Eleven" aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CVS-12), in 1962. VAW-11, Det.N was assigned to Carrier Anti-Submarine Air Group 57 (CVSG-57) aboard the Hornet for a deployment to the Western Pacific from 6 June to 21 December 1962.
The AD-5W/EA-1E 135165 was later transferred to the U.S. Air Force and converted to an A-1E. It served with the 1st Air Commando Squadron and crashed in Thailand after a loss of power on 11 March 1968. The pilot was rescued.
