Description
English: A U.S. Navy Douglas A-4E Skyhawk (BuNo 151165) of Attack Squadron 83 (VA-83) "Rampagers" landing aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La (CVA-38), circa in 1967. VA-83 was assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 8 (CVW-8) aboard the Shangri-La for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 29 September 1966 to 20 May 1967.
The A-4E 151165 was later lost over Vietnam on 11 September 1970 while in service with Marine Attack Squadron 311 (VMA-311). 1st Lt. Bernard Herbert Plassmeyer was killed when his Skyhawk was hit by ground fire and crashed while attacking enemy troops on a ridgeline near the A Shau Valley, 40 km south-east of Hué, Vietnam.
