Description
English: A U.S. Navy Douglas A-4B Skyhawk (BuNo 144943) of Anti-Submarine Fighter Squadron 1 (VSF-1) "War Eagles" landing aboard an aircraft carrier in 1965-1966.
Note: VSF-1 was established on 1 July 1965. The official description says that the A-4B landed aboard USS Midway (CVA-41) in the South China Sea in October 1965. Midway, with assigned Attack Carrier Air Wing 2 (CVW-2, tail code "NE") was deployed to Vietnam from 6 March to 23 November 1965. However, VSF-1 made its first known deployment aboard USS Yorktown (CVS-10) from 5 January to 27 July 1966 to Vietnam. Detachment T of VSF-1 operated four A-4B, coded NA-81 to NA-84. Also, Midway still had a third catapult on the landing deck, which is not visible here.
