Title |
Double oval loop buckle with moulded decoration. Front view. |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete, Post Medieval, cast, copper alloy, double loop oval loop buckle with all over moulded surface decoration. Larger knop and two smaller lobed knops at symetrical points on the outer edge of each loop. There is a moulded rosette or Tudor rose either end of the strap bar and similar floral patterns on the loops. The buckle is minus the tongue and has some surface wear but has a very corroded surface. There are signs of a gilded or silvered surface. This buckle is likely to date to 1550-1650AD. Ref. Buckles 1250-1800, Ross Whitehead, Greenlight Publishing 1996, page 67 No. 415-416. The incomplete buckle is 29.85mm long, 30.69mm wide, 3.37mm thick and weighs 6.8g. |
