Title
Double oval loop buckle. Front view.
Description
English: A complete, medium size, Medieval-Post Medieval, cast, copper alloy, double oval loop buckle. The buckle has rounded inner and outer edges, flat back but is minus the tongue with no signs of rusty iron so it was probably made of copper alloy. It has an attractive black patina, black lacquer mostly intact just a few small areas of corrosion with the central strap bar almost corroded/broken through at one point. This buckle is likely to date to 1350-1650. Ref. Buckles 1250-1800, Ross Whitehead, Greenlight Publishing 1996, page 53 no. 291. The buckle is 31.14mm long, 22.36mm wide, 2.58mm thick and weighs 3.0g.
