Title |
Double oval loop buckle. Front view. |
||
Description |
English: A complete, small, Medieval-Post Medieval, cast, copper alloy, double oval loop buckle. There is a sightly recessed central strap bar, tapering outer edges and rounded/bevelled inner edges. It is minus the tongue with no signs of rusty iron so probably was made of copper alloy. There are recessed inner edges from the underneath. It has a matt, green and brown surface with small remnants of black lacquer on the back. This buckle is likely to date to 1350-1650. Ref. Buckles 1250-1800, Ross Whitehead, Greenlight Publishing 1996, page 53 no. 295. The buckle is 23.04mm long, 18.98mm wide, 3.24mm thick and weighs 2.3g. |
