English: Portrait of Countess Palatine Dorothea Sophie of Neuburg (1670-1748), formerly identified as her sister-in-law Margherita Maria Farnese (1664-1718)
Italiano: "Nei cataloghi della Galleria compilati dal Pigorini e dal Ricci, la dama effigiata è erroneamente identificata con la figlia di Ranuccio II e di Isabella d’Este, Margherita Maria Teresa (1664-1718), ma grazie a riscontri iconografici con altri ritratti si può stabilire che si tratti di Dorotea Sofia di Neoburgo (1670-1749).
La duchessa appare ritratta a figura intera, sfarzosamente vestita con un “mantò” di seta azzurra a ricami in argento, che ricopre un abito ampiamente scollato, ornato da trine e impreziosito da guarniture gemmate, secondo la foggia a cavallo fra il Sei e il Settecento. L’acconciatura è leggermente rialzata, con boccoli complicati da un filo di perle e trattenuti da fermagli gemmati come vuole la moda del tempo. Per l’età dimostrata dalla dama, e la linea dell’abbigliamento, il dipinto sarebbe da collegare con le seconde nozze di Dorotea Sofia di Neoburgo con Francesco Farnese (1695), e con gli altri due ritratti, conservati in Galleria (inv. 1005, scheda n. 395 e inv. 1022, scheda n. 397)."
