Summary

[edit]
Description

Ball-and-stick model of the dopamine molecule, C8H11NO2, as found in solution.

This image is based on the crystal structure determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and reported in J. Mol. Struct. (2013), 1051, 132-136 (CSD entry TIRZAX).

In the solid state, dopamine adopts a zwitterionic form, as depicted in File:Dopamine-from-xtal-view-1-3D-bs-17.png and related images. To reflect the solution structure, in this image a proton has been manually transferred from nitrogen to oxygen.

Colour code:

Carbon, C: grey
Hydrogen, H: white
Nitrogen, N: blue
Oxygen, O: red
Model manipulated in Avogadro 1.2 and image generated in CCDC Mercury 3.8.
