Ceramic tiles decorating a wall of the Tekyeh Mo’aven ol Molk, representing scenes of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh (The epic of the kings, famous 110000 verses poem). Upper the Arch above the door, 2 winged victories testify that the Qajars who builded the monument, took directly their inspirations from the ancient reliefs of the earlier Persian empires: in this case, similar figures are carved above the rock reliefs of Taq-e Bustan, Sasanian era. Early Persian rock reliefs and bas-reliefs inspired the legends of mythic warriors & kings, giving the Shanameh its epical background. Taken at Kermanshah, Iran, May 2009. |
