Summary

[edit]
Description

As I've mentioned elsewhere, the Cast Courts of the Victoria and Albert museum contain some amazingly detailed, and in some cases *huge*, 19th century plaster casts of works of art and architecture, including this replica of Donatello's bronze David [ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_(Donatello) ], beautifully detailed in every way except for a few hairline cracks in the plaster. Oh, and the fact that his sword got snapped off many years ago.

The original recently underwent an extensive restoration and now stands proudly in the Bargello, Florence. The trouble is, you're not allowed to photograph it (although that hasn't stopped a few people). The nice thing about the V&A is that they allow flash photography.

I wasn't originally able to photograph this replica with my new digital camera because for some years the Italian Room of the Cast Courts had been closed for refubishment. So when it finally reopened I decided to make up for lost time, and how. Enjoy.

PS: Please remember that apart from a couple of paintings, *every* work of art or architecture you see in the background to these shots is a plaster cast.
