English: Ex-Western Pacific Railroad, ex-Mt Newman Mining EMD F7 Bo-Bo diesel-electric loco no. 5451, at the Don Rhodes Mining and Transport Museum, Wilson Street, Port Hedland, Western Australia.
This 1,120 kW unit was built in 1951 by General Motors - EMD at La Grange, Illinois, USA. In 1967, the WPR sold it to Mt Newman Mining, which used it in the construction of the Mt Newman railway between Mt Whaleback and Port Hedland. Following the completion of the railway's construction, the locomotive was used to haul the service train until it was retired in December 1971. (Source: the plaque adjacent to the exhibit.) |
