Îlot Fleurie, Québec Acier industriel récupéré. 2,5 x 3 x 3 m. Diplômé de l’École des beaux-arts de Montréal, Don Darby enseignera les arts plastiques au Cégep de Sainte-Foy durant plusieurs années. En plus de nombreuses expositions individuelles et collectives au Québec, aux États-Unis et en Hollande, il reste très actif dans le milieu des arts. En 1970, par exemple, il organise un symposium de sculpture au Centre d’art Manicouagan à Hauterive, et il s’implique dans l’élaboration du parc de sculptures de l’Îlot Fleurie à Québec. Dans sa pratique, il utilise divers matériaux et techniques dont le béton armé, le métal soudé et la fibre de verre pour élaborer des sculptures qui portent sur l’origine de l’être humain, sur les animaux en voie de disparition ainsi que sur les masques de civilisations et de cultures anciennes. Parmi ses œuvres d’intégration à l’architecture : des colonnes mobiles au CLSC Montmagny-Sud et des sculptures extérieures pour l’édifice de la Sûreté du Québec de Sept-Îles.
