Parc René-Lévesque, Montréal « Située à l'extrémité du parc René-Lévesque, près du lac Saint-Louis, la sculpture apparaît, comme son titre l'indique, tel un phare qui guiderait les navires et les promeneurs. Une grande colonne blanche s'élève au milieu de débris constitués de pierres et de sections de colonnes renversées. Au faîte de la colonne se trouvent deux volumes de granit noir décrivant un angle aigu. Au sol, une poutre d'acier est inclinée de sorte qu'elle reprend un angle semblable et évoque un levier. L'œuvre comportait à l'origine un système d'éclairage qui ne peut cependant être mis en fonction parce qu'il serait en interférence avec la signalisation maritime. Le titre de l'œuvre renvoie à Archimède, un savant grec à qui l'on doit le premier traité scientifique de statique. Intitulé Sur l'équilibre des plans, ce traité contient le principe du levier et les premières bases d'une hydrostatique scientifique (des corps flottants). Archimède a laissé une œuvre considérable; il a mené des recherches en mathématique, en géométrie et en physique.
