Thus, in the fundamental case of the John Clark house in Farinington, the deed of1657 (p. 19), on the basis of which they regard it as having been the oldest house in the colony, does notestablish more than that there was a dwelling-house on the lot in that year, and the belief that the housewhich stood in 1880 was identical with this and was not a successor, is based on details merely postulatedas early.
