Dolphin type brooch
Description
English: A copper-alloy Roman brooch. Dolphin type brooch of 1st century AD date. The head measures 26.8mm wide and is recessed on the reverse in order to hold the spring coils, ten of which remain intact. These are wound around an axis bar (also intact), which was originally held in place by a central lug (now slightly damaged). Approximately half of the copper-alloy wire pin remains. The bow is sub-circular in section and tapers from 4.2mm diameter at the top to a point at the foot. It is slightly bent. The catchplate is fully intact and has a small circular hole at its centre. Overall, the brooch measures 34mm high by 26.8mm wide and weighs 6.30g.
