Title
Dolphin brooch
Description
English: Copper alloy Dolphin type brooch dating to the 1st century. The brooch has hollow tubular wings which would have held a spring pin mechanism (although this does not survive). The wings are decorated with vertical bands of diagonal incised lines. At the top of the head of the brooch, there is the remains of a head loop. The bow extends from over the top of the wings in a long curve to the foot. The bow is decorated with a central rib of two rows of small pellets. At the foot there is the remains of an openwork catch plate. The brooch measures 64.5mm in length, 33.1mm in width and 20mm in thickness; it weighs 19.45g.
