Title
Dolphin Brooch from Middle Rasen
Description
English: Copper alloy

Brooch. Small cast hinged Dolphin Brooch, with tubular wings closed at the back around an axis bar retaining the stub of a hinged pin. A rib runs along the centre of the upper bow, giving way to a series of billeted compartments; though these may have retained enamel, no trace of colorant now remains. The bow narrows to a tiny pedestal foot; the stub of a catch-plate remains on its back. The brooch retains possible patches of patina, but is abraded, and has been treated with Vaseline. Suggested date: early Roman, 60-80.

Length: 26mm, Width: 17.4mm, Thickness (crest of bow): 4.1mm, Weight: 4.66gms.
