Title |
Dolphin Brooch |
||
Description |
English: A cast, copper alloy Roman dolphin brooch with hinge mechanism, Hull’s type 94B (Hattat,R. 1985). The wings of the brooch are tubular and contain the remains of an iron axis bar. They are decorated knurled double ribs between grooves. The lugs and pin do not survive, but traces of iron suggest an iron pin. The bow is slightly humped and is broken half the way down. It is decorated with three vertically running ribs. The brooch has gilt remaining on all surface area. The surviving length is 26.2mm and the length of the wings is 35.9mm. |
