Notes | Girl doll with composite head and cloth body; that belonged to Pat Coster, when she was aged c. 5 years old, early 1940s. It is a wartime doll of poorer quality material, and it is probable that the body is homemade. Pat says that she never played much with her dolls, as they never 'measured up'. Her mother had owned a beautiful French wax doll (whose eyes had fallen out from being left in the sun), while other friends had wonderful pre-war celluloid dolls. Pat looked at her own dolls and passed judgement on them. she believes their condition is probably more due to their poor quality than a result of over-handling. Other dolls owned by Pat include two other composite dolls, also in the collection, a Red Indian doll sent by her father when he trained in Canada with the RNZAF during WW2, and a brown velvet doll which was passed down to her. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
