Summary
[edit]DescriptionDolerite sill - geograph.org.uk - 1359419.jpg |
English: Dolerite sill. The summit ridge of Tal y Fan comprises an outcrop of dolerite (a basalt magma intruded into other rocks and cooled underground). The prominent scarp is visible from many miles away. Here, inclined joints dipping to the left look rather like a sedimentary rock, but the tough, greenish-grey crystalline rock tells immediately of its igneous origin. The intrusion is associated with the basaltic Tal y Fan Volcanic Formation 1358089. |
