[edit]
Description
English: Dog Leap Stair. Dog Leap Stair, also known as 'Dog Loup' stair is an historic stone stair leading from Castle Garth to Side, near its junction with lower Dean Street. The name refers to 'a narrow slip of ground between houses'. The railway viaduct that takes the main line over Dean Street, between Central Station and Manors, can be seen on the left 725920.

In 1772, John Scott, later 1st Earl of Eldon and Lord Chancellor of England, eloped with Bessie Surtees 1018305. The couple made their escape on horseback up Dog Leap Stair. Dog Leap Stair is mentioned in the 1978 song 'Down to the Waterline' by Dire Straits.
