Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Memorial to Elisa Dobson (d. 1778 aged 17), daughter of Matthew Dobson of the Liverpool Medical Institution and discoverer of the link between sugar and diabetes. The somewhat fulsome Latin inscription reads
Abiit

Dilecta mea filia

Elisa !

Pulchra, Jucunda, Benigna,

Mea Filia abiit !

Ingenua perquam et perquam acuta

Bonis artibus et studiis honestis ornata

Sancta et Religiosa

Mea Filia abiit !

Vale, mea Elisa, vale !

Te diu desiderandam luget pater :

Desiderandam, sed, Deo Optimo gratias, non amissam :

Nam veniet fel(i)cior setas

Quando iterum, mea filia, te aspiciam,

Et tecum sempiterne vivam.

Matthaeus Dobson, carss, dulci et beata suae Elisse,

Quse annos Septendecim nata,

Et A.D. 1778

In coelum placide migravit."
