English: The Royal Netherlands Navy Marineluchtvaartdienst (MLD) Dornier Do 24K-1 "X-19" on patrol in the Netherland East Indies, 1941. "X-19" was built as Dornier serial 779. On 31 January 1939 it was flown from Germany to Papendrecht (NL) and put into service as X-19. On 11 February it was shipped to the Netherlands East Indies on board of the cargo ship "Kota Baroe". On 1 February 1941 it was then assigned to MLD squadron GVT 4. On 10 December it was flown from Morokrembangen to Sambo to perform reconnaissanse missions over the South China Sea. On 25 December 1941 it got into an aireal battle with Japanese aircraft near the Anamas Islands, eventually the Japanese aircraft fled. Finally it crashed during a landing on a Sawah at Menarie on 25 January 1942.
Original text: "The plane is of German design but natives of the Dutch East Indies have been trained to operate it with deadly efficiency. It's a twelve-ton trimotor Dornier bomber belonging to the Royal Netherlands Navy, the greater part of which is still fighting the Nazis and their Axis partners from the Netherlands East Indies." Nederlands: Een Dornier Do 24K-1 X-19 van de Marineluchtvaartdienst (MLD) op patrouille in Nederlands-Indië. De X-19 had het serienummer 779. Op 31 januari 1939 vloog het van Duitsland naar Papendrecht en kwam in dienst als X19. Op 10 december werd het van Mokokrembangen naar Sambo gevlogen om verkenningstaken uit te voeren in de Zuid-Chinese zee. Op 25 december 1941 kwam het bij de Anamas eilanden tot een luchtgevecht met de Japanse luchtmacht. Uiteindelijk stortte het neer tijdens een landing op 25 januari 1942. Mokokrembangen was een vliegveld op het eiland Java was gelegen aan de noordoost kust even ten westen van Soerabaja. |
