Kontext (S. 1): "Zu den religiösen Einrichtungen des Landes gehören die dīwānä (p. [...]) genannten Bettler, Sue ziehen mit dem Rasselstab (si pāyä, (p. [...]), der Almosenschale (käškül, [...]), dem Rosenkranz (täsbī, a. [...]) und dem Flickenrock und der Derwischkappe ganz nach Weise der buddhistischen Bettelmönche im Lande herum (Taf. 1,1). Gazellen- oder Ibex-Hörner zum Blasen scheinen von den dīwānä in Ost-Turkistan nicht geführt zu werden. Die Almosenschale besteht gemeinhin aus einem großen Flaschenkürbis. Die dīwānä verdienen durch Ansingen von Liedern ihr Brot und sind zu den geriebensten Gaunern zu rechnen. Einige liegen wie indische Büßer fast nackt, mit Asche bestreut, auf den Straßen und erregen durch ihr Aussehen das Mitleid der Vorübergehenden." |
