Summary
[edit]DescriptionDiwakar Buddhist School at Takdah or Tukdah in Darjeeling district 03.jpg |
English: Diwakar Buddhist School at Takdah or Tukdah in Darjeeling district. It is an elementary educational institution. The main building is located inside a colonial Bungalow.
The language of instruction is Tibetan but the students also learn Nepali, the language mainly used in the area, as well as English. Students also receive an introduction to Buddhist Philosophy and rituals in order to prepare them for the shedra. Takdah Cantonment is a neighbourhood in the Rangli Rangliot CD block in the Darjeeling Sadar subdivision of the Darjeeling district, West Bengal. Takdah Cantonment, as the name signifies, was a British cantonment before the independence of India. It was the destination for many British officers of high rank from all over India. After independence, like many other towns and villages, Takdah was abandoned by the new order. It was only recently that people really started to settle down in the area. There are about 12 colonial bungalows at Takdah. These bungalows have been built between the years 1905 and 1915. The bungalows are also popularly known by the local name of ‘Kothis’ |
