Summary

[edit]
Description The eastern Division Street Bridge, in Chicago, Illinois, one of two almost identical bridges on West Division Street, viewed looking east from the northwest sidewalk. The east bridge crosses the North Branch Canal (whereas the west bridge crosses over the North Branch of the Chicago River). It was built in 1902–1903 (opening in February 1903) and is a bascule bridge of a design known as "Chicago Type Bascule".
In the righthand background of this 1999 photo the old Halsted Street Bridge is partially in view. That 1909-built bridge was dismantled in 2011 and replaced by a new bridge.
