| Description |
English: Disused station platform, Hannington Station (Highworth Branch Line), near Swanborough Remains of the station platform of the disused Hannington Station can still be seen in this patch of waste land near Swanborough, a mile south-east of Hannington. This was one of the stations on the disused Great Western Railways (GWR) Highworth branch line between Swindon and Highworth. The line was built by the Swindon & Highworth Light Railway Company who sold it to the GWR before the first train ran because of faults they could not afford to repair. The first train ran in 1883. The line above Kingsdown Junction (of which this is a part) was closed in 1962, the remaining line to Swindon in 1964. |
