Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Disused railway looking south. This disused single track railway line was once a branch of the Great Central Railway, which when it opened in 1899 was the last main line twin track railway to be built, see 940432.

This view looking south-east of a single line of track beyond some partially dismantled track is all that remains of the alternative route to London via High Wycombe. The former junction with the main railway line is behind the camera. Here is a photo from 1905 showing the diverging lines, with the same bridge that is in this photo, on the right, http://www.railwayarchive.org.uk/map/getobjectmap.php?rnum=L2288&mapid=469220.jpg&mlsref=1059&cmn=Grendon%20Underwood&pn=1&mp=1&all=yes.

The single track goes as far as a fertiliser depot near Woodham about 3.5km to the south which was served by a weekly freight train until the mid 90s.
