Summary
[edit]DescriptionDisused railway line near Greatmoor 1 - geograph.org.uk - 431559.jpg |
English: Disused railway line near Greatmoor 1 This disused single track railway line was once part of the Great Central Railway, which when it opened in 1899 was the last main line twin track railway to be built. This section of the line was constructed to provide an alternative route to the London terminus at Marylebone via High Wycombe instead of sharing the line with the Metropolitan Railway via Aylesbury. Until the mid 90s a weekly freight train used this line to serve a fertiliser depot 3.5km to the south. This view to the north shows the line a few hundred metres south of the junction with the main line of the railway (see SP7022), which is still used by freight trains. However for the last hundred metres before this junction, the track has been lifted so there is no longer a physical connection between the two lines. |
