Summary
[edit]DescriptionDistrict staff checks progress on Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway gates (8245188118).jpg | A crew member welds together metal on the pin pedestal for the new Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway Nov. 28, 2012, at the Oregon Iron Works’ Clackamas, Ore., facility. The pin pedestal is part of the trunnion assembly for the tainter gates on the control structure. A trunnion is a cylindrical protrusion used as a mounting and/or pivoting point, and will help the gates to open and close during operation. Personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, including Commander Col. Bill Leady, took a tour of the site to gauge the progress on 12 massive bulkhead and tainter gates, which will control the flow of water from Folsom Lake through the spillway’s control structure. The spillway project is a joint effort of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and state and local partners to reduce flood risk throughout the Sacramento region. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2017. (U.S. Army photo by Jacqueline Steiner/Released) |
