sion recurs in a shorttime, it is well to introduce a tampon into the vagina or pack the vaginawith antiseptic gauze or cotton and stitch the lips of the pudenda in such amanner as not to interfere with the normal passage of urine, and assistdefecation and prevent straining by the administration of laxatives orusing glycerine suppositories. The writer generally uses the followingmethod: After returning the vagina to the normal position, he puts twostitches in the pudenda and leaves them there for three days, whenthey are removed. In one case where there was great thickening of the walls of the vagina 214 DISEASES OF THE URIXARY AND SEXUAL APPARATUS and reduction of the prolapse was impossible, and another where thevagina prolapsed immediately after the stitches were removed after beingthere for several days, the writer performed a partial amputation, takingout an elongated piece of mucous membrane and sewing it up by a continu-ous stitch of cat-gut, which was followed by good results.
