The question of the specific origin of the disease has beenfinally settled by the investigations of Koch, who proved the specific micro-organism known as the tubercle bacillus to be the pathological factor. Biedert found IG cases of primary intestinal tuberculosis among 310-tpost-mortems. Heller found 7.4 2^^! cent, of primary tuberculosis among 714 post-mortems in diphtheria, and a total of 19.6 per cent, of all varieties oftuberculosis among these 714 cases. Orth states that primary intestinal tuberculosis is exceedingly rare inBerlin because of the universal use of sterilized or boiled milk.^ ^Zeitschr. f. On the other hand he found, among 266 children in the second year,13 died of miliary tuberculosis. One hundred and eighty-two children outof 611 died of miliary tuberculosis between the age of 2 and 4 year
