Dry Root Rot.—Affected plants are dwarfed and yellow and many die. The fibrous roots rot off, the taproot turns a dark-red color and grad- ually dries up. New lateral roots sometimes grow out above the dead part. This fungus disease, caused by Fusarium solani var. martii f. 3, is worst on poorly drained soils. Good soil preparation, proper irrigation and cultivation, and crop rotation are the only control measures which can be used against diseases
