Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Disappearing waters The point where the waters of Mossdale Beck disappear underground. The underground course of the water is fascinating as this limestone is not the Great Scar Limestone famed for large and complex cave systems, but is part of the Yoredale series of limestones, sandstones and shales, where limestone bands tend to be relatively thin. The natural extension of Mossdale would carry water south towards Hebden Beck and thence to the River Wharfe, but the underground water eventually turns up after a period of 18 days at Black Keld, a spring close to the Wharfe just downstream from Kettlewell and some 4.5km WNW of Mossdale Scar.
